Importance of Language Learning – observations of a student
In the twenty first century the world is much globalized, which means, we live in a multilingual world, where connections are more important than ever.
Nowadays to study and learn new languages seem a must, in terms of self development, comfort and confidence.
However, not everyone thinks about it until he or she faces the particular situation. Let’s consider several benefits of the bilingualism for career, travel, communication, and the fact that knowing at least one foreign language makes the person smarter.
Besides having more chances of getting a good job or advancing in your career, learning a second language can also give you an insight into other cultures. You will be more prepared and confident to travel and explore other people’s ways of living.
Also, learning a second language creates an opportunity for being part of a community with a different culture, and learning more about the world around us.
So let me share with own observations gained while studying English and other languages.
1.It improves your memory
The more you “push” your brain to learn new skills, the more your brain’s functions work. Learning a new language pushes your brain to get familiar with new grammar and vocabulary rules. It allows you to train your memory to remember new words and make connections between them.
2.Connect!
One of the most rewarding aspects of the human experience is our ability to connect with others. Being able to communicate with someone in his or her language is an incredible gift. So that’s why bilinguals have the unique opportunity to communicate with a wider range of people in their personal and professional lives.
3. Boost Your Confidence
When you start learning a new language, you will realize how fast the trust in yourself grows. Especially, in the beginning of the learning process you will make efficient steps and they will keep you motivated.
You will see how fast your skills will improve. On the one hand you will get compliments from people who dare to study a new language. On the other hand you will impress native speakers when you are able to say words or phrases in their language. I promise;)
And also learning a language means putting yourself out there and moving out of your comfort zone, which makes you ambitious and dedicated.
4. You will change the way you think
Yes, exactly!
I think this is the most valuable part of language learning as a way of changing perspective. Not because a new language will allow you to have different thoughts, nor even because it will give you access to people whose thoughts differ from yours, but because it will help you to understand yourself in a way that wasn’t possible before.
New language learning has always been important to humans for its benefits. There are many proverbs and quotes which I would like to share at the end
“A different language is a different vision of life.” — Federico Fellini
“Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.”-Chinese Proverb
”Knowledge of languages is the doorway to wisdom.” -Roger Bacon
“Learn a new language and get a new soul.” -Czech Proverb
“You live a new life for every language you speak. If you know only one language, you live only once” -Czech Proverb
